It showcases art works, archival material and notes by Athens-based artists. The broad scope of creative practices occurring here makes up the sum of a multitude. Looking more deeply at Athens, it is unmistakable that highly edited gestures are being manifested in abundance by above all remaining serene. Each artist presents fragments or complete works representative of his most recent inquiry. By doing so, Space52 is collective transformed into an inclusive artist-studio, a reservoir of ideas and proposals. The selected works explore equal parts of theory and practice. At a first glance they may appear incongruous and eclectic yet, a closer look will reveal the unanimous overtone of memory, fragility and sensory experiences. In this Forthcoming 2 exhibition, we would like your entries to have a look at what happens when artists put aside the range of colors and focus on the visual power of black, white and all of the intermediaries. Monochrome in all forms of art reveals new knowledge about the use of color as an option rather than a necessity. Is color the forbidden fruit for a form of aesthetic ascetic action by an artist? The historical continuity and the diversity of the monochrome from the middle Ages to this day demonstrate how important a matter is in Western art. As color permeates everyday life, black and white can mark a shift to another spiritual context.

Σε αυτή την έκθεση Forthcoming 2 οι καλλιτέχνες βάζουν στην άκρη το φάσμα των χρωμάτων και επικεντρώνονται στην οπτική ισχύ του μαύρου, του λευκού και όλων των ενδιάμεσων. Η μονοχρωμία σε όλες τις μορφές τέχνης αποκαλύπτει νέες γνώσεις σχετικά με τη χρήση του χρώματος ως επιλογή παρά ως αναγκαιότητα. Είναι το χρώμα ο απαγορευμένος καρπός για μια μορφή αισθητικής ασκητικής δράσης ενός καλλιτέχνη; Η ιστορική συνέχεια και η πολυμορφία του μονόχρωμου από τον Μεσαίωνα μέχρι σήμερα καταδεικνύουν πόσο σημαντικό θέμα είναι στη δυτική τέχνη. Καθώς το χρώμα διαπερνά την καθημερινή ζωή, το ασπρόμαυρο μπορεί να σηματοδοτήσει μια στροφή προς ένα άλλο πνευματικό πλαίσιο.
